2019 EALAN AGM AND CONFERENCE

Ardhi University with support from GIZ, NUFFIC, ADLAND is organizing the 2019 EALAN Conference in Zanzibar on “Quest for Smart Solutions for Responsible Land Management and Land Administration in Eastern Africa”. The Conference which is scheduled to take place between 23rd and 24th July 2019, will be preceded by a Pre – Conference Workshop and Annual General Meeting 18th – 23rd July.

The Conference in Zanzibar, seeks to explore quicker solutions based on smart-technologies to help overcome the challenges that the Eastern Africa region faces. Traditional methodologies of mapping, registering and titling of land have not alphabol yielded the desired outcomes. The key solution lies in digitization of the land administration systems that would help ensure good land governance, land readjustment and consolidation for food security generally in line with press frontal en maquina the continent’s thrive for ‘feed the future’.

During the Conference, two Key note address will be given by prominent land experts in Tanzania. Prof. John Lupala, Director of Urban Planning MLHHSD will give a key note address on Implementation of Land Tenure Support Programme (LTSP) in Tanzania while Dr. Felician Komu, Managing Director of Majengo Estate Developers Limited will speak about Innovative Land Administration in Eastern Africa and Its Impacts on Customary Land Tenure. Each key note address will be followed by a Policy Dialogue session.

The conference has attracted twenty (20) papers based on results from recent and ongoing researches on the theme and a total of 120 participants.  Participants are from the EALAN Member countries, NELGA Regional Nodes, NELGA Partners, ADLAND Project, DAAD Scholars from Bahir Dar and Ardhi University, Ardhi University staff, officials from the Ministry of Lands, Housing and Human Settlements Development in Tanzania, Commission of Lands in Zanzibar and Civil Societies from with the Eastern Africa region.
