Access to qualified scientific information is a pre-requisite for development. It is a fundamental human right that can support sustainable development. That’s why access to information is central to the post-2015 development agenda.
Better quality and greater availability of information will lead to improved allocation of resources and more informed decision making. Incomplete and not qualified information often leads to decision making that does not respond to the needs of the community (UN Sustainable Development Goals SDG’s).
Different stakeholders should make a commitment to ensure that everyone
- has access to;
- understands;
- is able to use;
- shares
the information that is necessary to promote sustainable development.
The development of the knowledge network is an element of capacity building for education and research. It supports academic partnerships and the university network. This knowledge network is also to share knowledge between the active participating EALAN members in the following fields:
- Land administration
- Land governance and conflict resolution, and
- Access to land for women and vulnerable groups
The knowledge network serves the following purposes:
- It provides access to (scientific) data and information
- It forms a platform to share information and data
- It provides access to newly created data and knowledge within the project
- It presents qualified materials
Specific attention will be paid to issues related to privacy, copy right and security.
